Gonzalo Antón,
well-known hotelier and owner of the Zaldiaran Restaurant, a gastronomic reference in the Basque Country, decided, at the age of 37, to found Bodegas Izadi and unite his two passions: wine and gastronomy.
Izadi in Villabuena de Álava opens to the public, becoming one of the first wineries with its own restaurant, hotel, and guided tours. Different events of the pioneering Vitoria Signature Cuisine Congress will be held there.
Lalo Antón,
son of the founder, joins the company and a period of opening up to new channels, internationalisation and expansion begins.
The Orben project in Rioja brings an end to a period of expansion during which Finca Villacreces (2003) and Vetus (2004) became part of the group. As a result, Artevino now has four wineries, operating in Rioja, Ribera, and Toro.
Izadi, approaching a quarter of a century since its foundation, is ranked as one of the 100 best wineries in the world by the American magazine Wine & Spirits.
Finca Villacreces rises to fame thanks to Pruno, considered by Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) as the best Spanish wine in history for under 20 dollars.
With the acquisition of Pinos Claros, in the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero, Artevino expands to 275 hectares of vineyards, 70% of which are organically grown.
The Top 100 ranking by prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator ranks Orben as the best Spanish wine of the year, and places it among the 15 most highly rated wines in the world.
Artevino's commitment to sustainability and its respect for its origins led them to certify all their wineries in the Wineries for Climate Protection programme.
